Nepal, Himalayan foothills, Sindhuli area backroad to Kathmandu - Peter's foot and wheel on the worst kind of rough road: sharp rocks covered with "moon dust" so they can't be seen. Somehow, my load-bearing wheels survived, with narrow tires, 700c x 37 (1-3/8inch width). I really don't think mountain bike tires are necesary for touring if you have strong wheels - I have a 36 spoke Deep V on the front, and 40 spoke single wall rim on the back. No problem if I take it easy on these rough roads. (Peter)
