In 1999 Serbia was bombed by NATO. The air campaign began to pressure the Serbian army to pull out of Kosovo, which had been unstable since the breakup of the USSR. This is the site of the former Army headquarters in downtown Belgrade which was destroyed in the attack and still stands today.
